Today I am proud to announce my candidacy for District 62A of the Minnesota House of Representatives. I know I am ready to handle our community's challenges, and I'm excited to meet them head-on. We should be proud of our district's progressive bent, which is truly unique, even in our state, but that doesn't mean everything is perfect.
For example, one out of every four children in our district lack permanent housing, and many in our district struggle to afford education, especially college, without incurring debt that can affect them well after they graduate. I believe that tackling issues such as housing, education, and employment requires new and varied tactics constantly, as I have seen that our problems can be as diverse as we are.
Throughout my time doing outreach with our African-American, Latinx, Indigenous, and Somali communities, I've realized that sometimes the solution to problems is as simple as listening to someone's needs and doing your best to help them. That is what I will be doing during my campaign, as it is something I am passionate about, and I cherish it every time I get the opportunity.
In the coming weeks and months, I will be asking you to give me that opportunity.
Above all, I believe that even though sometimes we might speak a different language, we share the same struggles, and I feel strongly that we can solve these problems together.
